The 15 Is Fair campaign was created by the Alberta Federation of Labour to encourage the provincial government to follow through on promises to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2018. The minimum wage became $15 on October 1, 2018, thanks to the NDP government.
But, in 2019, the UCP government rolled back the wage to $13 for youth workers (15-17 year-olds). We think this is a discriminatory policy that undermines the minimum wage and allows employers to take advantage of vulnerable workers. And now, Jason Kenney and the UCP government are planning to further roll back the $15 minimum wage for more working Albertans.
For more than 30 years, the AFL has advocated for fair wages, and for a minimum wage that reflects the true cost of living in the province. All workers deserve a living wage.
